Spoiler: the guy on the right (the King's left) is Ëol.

And you thought he was dead.

The Dark Elf? What, did he stow away when the Istari came to Middle-earth? Or perhaps he accompanied a reincarnated Glorfindel? Or did he fake his own death? ;)

I still think he's meant to be Aragorn (though he probably should look younger and less severe).

That's where I place my bet too (the dates are coherent). At that time he was serving under Thengel (in the middle) with the assumed identity of Thorongil, still concealing his lineage.
At Thengel's right we can assume there's his wife Morwen.

Morwen was dark haired, wasn't she?

However, it is in fact the Emperor Palatine on Thengel's left; there's rather a lot of Shadow in Edoras that needs lifting....

More seriously, OATHS is one book I am drooling for: that first and then a matching pair of books based in Gondor. When that happens the whole TOR collection will seem to have a completed foundation for the many expansions that the forum is wishing for.
I'm just off to put some more wood on my beacon ready to light when the Gondor expansions appear.

Whereas the ranger in our campaign spams royalty revealed on every roll possible...

I hadn't considered the Emperor Palpatine angle. Seems valid to me.

I have zero insider information about the nature of Oaths, but just going by all the plot hooks sprinkled around in Rohan I have some solid guesses, and I can't wait. Political intrigue and double-double-crossing galore.

"The Errantries of the King" in Horselords of Rohan posits that Aragorn was called Thorongil a bit later, probably when he moved on to Gondor to serve under the steward Ecthelion. The Rohirrim called Aragorn "The Eagle" for his keen sight and discernment.

Perhaps the woman is not Morwen but some shieldmaiden of Rohan who is profiled within or taken from the Horselords sourcebook. Candidates from Horselords include: Éofolda, Lady of Stotfold; Mildryd Shielding, Daughter of Galwyn; and (less likely), Edelyn of Stanshelf, Daughter of Trumbold.

I said this early last year, but it seems worth repeating now. ;)

Let me emphasize this is TS talking and completely unofficial - I postulate the Eorlingas would've actually called Aragorn "Eärn". He notes that he wore "many different names" in his travels. Eärn means "Eagle" in Rohirric. Thorongil as many of you doubtless know, means "Eagle of the Star". It beggars belief that the Ecthelion, who was friends with Thengel, wouldn't have known that "Eärn" had served with him.

If Aragorn were trying to blend it, he probably wouldn't choose a Sindarin name while among the Eorlingas. But it would make perfect sense to choose a Sindarin name while in Gondor.
