Soldiers of the Queen.

Post by Southby-Taylyour » Fri Sep 16, 2016 8:35 am

Doing some research for uniforms for various regiments of the British Army I found this site. Photographic studies. A bit later than Victoriana but still....
As I've said previously, I'm not sure why but it seems to me the colonial aspect of the era is being neglected.
Maybe because we are looking at a slightly earlier period in the reign of Queen Victoria as opposed to what came to be called The Scramble for Africa and other parts of the world by Great Britain and European countries.
1870 approx to 1914.
Anyway, it's a very good resource.
Lots of biographies for soldiers, other notables and such who could easily be adapted for a slightly earlier part of Victoria's reign no?
Have a look anyway and enjoy.

It's the site of the Victorian Military Society I believe. They focus on research about the period and have a great track record. I used to belong when I did a lot of colonial period gaming as they have a great resource in the members. The wargame section is just a small part of the society and if you have genealogical questions about people, uniforms and awards it's the go to place.
