Queensberry Rules: Magic
This Queensberry rule is a bit of a misnomer because it has already been presented as an optional rule in Liber Magica. Since I've received some requests on making magic a little more costly and unpredictable I thought I'd share it here.
1. Multiply the cost of any magical spell or ability by 2 and add 1 to the total. This is the new cost to cast the spell.
2. Make a casting roll. If successful, then each success subtracts 1 from the cost. No matter how many successes are rolled, all magic has a minimum cost of 1 point.
3. All magic requires 2 successes to work. If you only roll one success, then you managed to summon the aetheric energy but lost control at the last moment. You pay the cost of the spell (-1 for the success) and the magic doesn't manifest. If you completely fail the roll then you still pay 1 quintessence point.
4. For petty magic, activation costs remain as they are.
