Let's be careful on this point — if your entry point to Middle-earth was any of the various films over the decades, the game(s) will give you the tools to inhabit Middle-earth, and have fun gaming in the world.

I still haven't seen that movie. Every once in a while I wonder if I should...
every Hobbit film has a brilliant scene.

Unexpected Journey: Bilbo and Gollum
Desolation of Smaug: Bilbo and Smaug
Battle of the Five Armies: The White Council at Dol Goldur.

Worth seeing, if only for that.

Well, Jon or T.S. can pop in here and correct me, but I was pretty sure their licenses to make ToR and AiME were that they were specific to the written works of Tolkien and not to the film adaptations. So while people are free to use stuff from the films in their home games, anything that appeared in a film but not in a book is not canon for the games and will never be written up or given stats by C7.

Just to randomly hop in on the Hobbit movies, someone out there did a "Tolkien cut" of all three movies and re-cut them into one. Honestly, it turned out pretty well, imo.

Well, the MERP team was not particularly committed to accuracy in regards to Tolkien's legendarium, at least in the details. TOR could arguably benefit from a little more variety in the available arms and armor, but MERP could have done without a few (2-Handed Sword; Bola; Composite Bow; Crossbow; Plate Armor). And the prices in MERP were a bit inflated (40 sp for a pony), though not as bad as those in D&D (where a pony is 30 gp).

DR. MANHATTAN: Yes, I have. I think perhaps I'll create some. Goodbye, Adrian.

Don't, just, don't...
We need to come up with alternate titles for each installment. For Unexpected Journey I propose: "Two Halflings, One Ring".

And no plate armor.
Prince Imrahil is described as wearing vambraces "And he held the bright-burnished vambrace that was upon his arm before her cold lips, and behold1 a little mist was laid on it hardly to be seen." ROTK The Battle of the Pelennor Fields.

So there is some canon for plate armour in Tolkien, its just not specific if it is sectional or a half/full suit of plate.

Cheers, Ross
I don't think vambraces are necessarily a part of a plate armor, they can be part of any tye of armor.
