My campaign's early years were played in TOR, but the storyline is all the same. Lake-town and Dale don't see a lot of action until much later in the Darkening of Mirkwood storyline. I just used the concept of adventurers being called north (in the beginning) as a way to get the PCs together at the beginning, where after they adventured together they formed bonds of friendship. Though Lake-town is a Sanctuary for them, they quickly made the Easterly Inn (on the other side of the forest) another Sanctuary, and they did far more in those early years on the Western side.

Best of luck with your game! :)

I places an emissary from Dale at both the Easterly Inn and woodman town, who give out tasks to the party.

I couldn't think of why my party would be going down along the Anduin to start episode 3, but will remedy that by having one of the emissaries send them down that way to check something out.
I concur with the other comments - this is a great idea and I may use it myself. Thank you for sharing. :)

BTW, good idea on using Phandelver; I think it's an excellent adventure that could fairly easily be tweaked and adapted to work in Middle-earth.

I agree wholeheartedly. It's my favorite 5e adventure and could largely be done with just some name and background changes.
