A Question on the Hound of Mirkwood

Post by Dirk89stensrud » Wed Jan 10, 2018 8:03 pm

RAW says "Add your proficiency bonus to the Hound's AC, attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws and skills."

In regards to saving throws and skills, is this just a blanket +2 (at third level), or is it only a +2 to the saving throws and skills the Hound is proficient in? I would think it would be what they are proficient in as that is what a PC gains the proficiency bonus in, however, the Hound does not have any saving throw proficiencies.

I would give it to all of their rolls.

that's exactly that
i mean, when you compare with the animal companion of the ranger, it is far more powerful

True, however the Ranger's animal companion exists in another game altogether. It would be more appropriate to compare it to another Virtue in this game.

In fact, you don't get the full effects of the Hound right when taking the virtue. It takes more than one Fellowship Phase Undertaking to unlock all of it's potential. If you are using the option from the LMG to learn new Virtues as undertakings, this one could end up costing you the chance to learn 3 or 4 other Virtues.

At that cost it might be Underpowered.
