The SOE Handbook - Available to Preorder Now

Post by Andrew » Mon Apr 20, 2015 2:06 pm

Today we’re announcing the next supplement for World War Cthulhu: The Darkest Hour, our World War 2 espionage setting for Call of Cthulhu: The SOE Handbook.

The Special Operations Executive were tasked with some of the most daring and dangerous covert actions of the Second World War, from sabotaging power plants to establishing resistance cells in occupied Europe. Yet for the agents of Network N, fighting the Nazis is just one part of their war, for they have the agents of the Mythos to deal with too.

Drawing from real Special Operations Executive training materials and catalogues, The SOE Handbook presents players and Keepers with a wealth of information about combat techniques, tradecraft, the ungentlemanly art of sabotage and the sometimes bizarre weapons and equipment developed for Britain’s secret war. Plentiful sidebars translate these techniques and items into Call of Cthulhu game mechanics. The book is also peppered with notes from the mysterious N, steering members of his network through the added complications of applying this knowledge to battles with more eldritch foes.

The SOE Handbook also presents details of a selection of SOE training facilities and the sometimes eccentric personalities who may be encountered there, from initial training at Wanborough Manor, to the SOE’s ‘finishing school’ at Beaulieu. This allows the Keeper to include mission-specific training, along with the occasional side mission on home soil, as part of their campaign.

So, if you ever wanted to know how to knock out a cultist with nothing more than a matchbox, how to resist interrogation at the hands of the Gestapo or how best to use an exploding rat, then The SOE Handbook is for you!

UPDATE: The pre-order for the SOE Handbook is now live! Pre-order at our webstore or buy in PDF now.

Is there an ETA for the PDF? Physical copy?

How many pages? MSRP?

Such a good cover! Can't wait! IS there any chance of an update to the system with this book? My group have switched to 7th (more or less, still waiting to get my tentacles on it) and I was wondering if I would need to get a new core book for WWC or if one of the new releases would have updated rules.

As far as I know the SOE Agent's HB is going to be 6e and 7e will wait for a reprint. Honestly the differences are minimal in terms of gameplay and you should be able to convert any scenarios very easily.

Because the Darkest Hour core rulebook is 6e, to maintain consistency and compatibility all of its supplements will remain 6e too. Future core rulebooks (Cold War, for example) will use the most up to date version of the rules instead (7e).

As for converting Darkest Hour from 6e to 7e, as Hermes Serpent said it's really very simple - but also keep an eye on the website!
