Homebrew/Expanded Content

Post by Eirvit » Sat Feb 04, 2017 10:16 pm

Hey, community. Since I started my Yggdrasill home campaign late last year, I've been generating additional game content informed by my reading of other Viking/Norse game systems and literatures. I link it here for anyone's interest. In most cases, you will find a quotation that serves as the inspiration for their new content or mechanic. I also should add that I tend to use a bag of actual runestones for my home brewed rune mechanics, rather than the d8 charts, so that's why there exists a Void rune.

I would be delighted with any advice, criticisms or general observations that anyone would like to share. I also would like to add that the game supplement outside of the official Yggdrasill line that has contributed to my game the most has been Mongoose Games's Vikings of Legend. I reviewed it and some others here: https://www.blackgate.com/2017/01/14/mo ... ying-game/

Hiyas!

Perhaps Triple Ace's Hellfrost, a heavily nordic fantasy game, will help stir up some ideas?

Thanks for the reference! I've been collecting all manner of Norse-themed rpg material, both for use in my home game and for review over at Blackgate. I had no idea about this one. I'm surprised at how much is out there.

Hiyas!

Hellfrost is actually a "savage world" - utilising the Savage Worlds rules by Pinnacle Games.

Jess remembered about Ragnarok, a game that actually uses runes to resolve its' rules. I'ts a labor o' love by one dedicated guy - a bit expensive, but worth it (you can find it in PDF in many sites and physically in Amazon). This one sticks veeery close to the source Edda material.

There's also a FREE (rune-based too) RPG whose (sic?) name eludes me, but I bet you can also get by doing a bit o' research in free RPG sites.
