Makes much more sense. There are only three careers, basic, intermediate and advanced tier and you choose the next two careers above basic by what is story wise and not what the exits want you to do. Always disliked it and the possibility of exploiting the system to move for a short time into the careers to grip the sweetest fruits and then - bang - leave it be.
Too much realism, too little arbitrary restrictions, and suddenly you might have lost the charm.
I believe WFRP4 is better served by adding a way to stay in your existing career as you gain experience.
