Re: Passing to Rearward stance in the middle of a fight

Oh, for an example of combat that actually highlighted and clarified these rarer circumstances within a game! I've wished many times that the Extended Combat Example would include the second round! It would clarify the Engagements AND the way Attercops use their Special Abilities! :D Oh, yes!

Re: Passing to Rearward stance in the middle of a fight

For what it's worth, I actually think that Dunkelbrink, and others stating the same, is the most correct interpretation of the RAW as I think that fits in with the style of TOR. Oh, for an example of combat that actually highlighted and clarified these rarer circumstances within a game! I'm not sing...

Rich, you are spot on concerning engagements and stances.
Cheers James. I'm not 100% sure as can see both ways are viable but its they way I've worked it since playing so will stick that way as it doesn't appear to break anything; although it does mean PCs are 'locked' into their engagements.

Re: Passing to Rearward stance in the middle of a fight

For me, it really boils down to how fluid you think the Engagement status is and how much weight you put on the statement "A combatant remains engaged until he defeats all opposition". I read that as you continue with the current engagement until your opposition is defeated which, for me, means that...

Re: Passing to Rearward stance in the middle of a fight

My own interpretation allows for more freedom to the heroes, and considers that the tides and movements of the fight allow other companions to close around the archer, or form a sort of man-wall, or whatever, and those in melee are able to engage the archer's enemy, thus freeing him to change stanc...

Re: Passing to Rearward stance in the middle of a fight

I am not sure I understand? You allow moving between close combat stances *every round*, but not between them and Rearward stance, even if the number of combatants allows it, unless the hero is also not engaged at the time? That's right, because the rules also state this: A character is engaged whe...

Re: Passing to Rearward stance in the middle of a fight

Well this is getting... interesting. So how do you handle close combat stances then, do you not allow a hero to move from open to defensive stance in the middle of fighting an opponent? No, that's fine; they can move around in any close combat stance while remaining engaged. That's how the RAW work...

Re: Herbs and Similar

It's possible that's at least in part because we had a big discussion about exactly this topic after his first draft. True dat. P.S. I like Stormcrow's suggestion as well. That makes "Look for Herbs" an undertaking similar to other ones that give you a bonus trait for the next adventure. Me three.

Re: Master of Tyrant's Hill?

Here's another question, this time about the DoM campaign: in your experience, how important is it to the main story, whether Mogdred is accepted as Wood-men or not? I haven't read the entire timeline yet, but it seems that it is pretty much left for roleplaying and up to the Companions how this go...

Re: Stats for Noldor NPCs

Don't roll any dice; just give the players dramatic updates that rise and fall alongside their own successes. You get the idea. There's a reason they are called "Loremaster Characters" and not "Non-player Characters". The difference runs deeper than simply not being controlled by a player. This is ...
