Re: New Journey Rules - Ideas from AiMe

Hi Sivart, that's really great to 'hear'. I'm glad your players could see some of the benefits this brought to the table for them and with the added complexity and options it should make it feel more involving from a mechanical sense.

Re: Other Minds magazine, latest Issue published

As a counter balance, I'd just like to state that using and reusing established characters can get old pretty fast so having new ones introduced is a welcome change! Wilderland is a Huuuuuuuuge area of land so there's definite license to expand and detail other areas as well; without such expansion ...

Re: Stats for Noldor NPCs

This is what I'd do as well, no need to have the headache of statting them out when as LM you pretty much know what you want them to do within such a battle. The process of following the combat sequence and rolling dice against weapon skills and so forth are there for the players' benefit. The Lore...

Re: Passing to Rearward stance in the middle of a fight

I was sure that I had my interpretation backed by C7, just had to look a little while. Here it goes: It wasn't our intention to 'lock' players in a close combat stance and prevent them from moving to Rearward when engaged. That is what the rules currently imply, however, so I'll clarify further, so...

Re: Passing to Rearward stance in the middle of a fight

Oh, for an example of combat that actually highlighted and clarified these rarer circumstances within a game! I've wished many times that the Extended Combat Example would include the second round! It would clarify the Engagements AND the way Attercops use their Special Abilities! :D Oh, yes!

Re: Passing to Rearward stance in the middle of a fight

For what it's worth, I actually think that Dunkelbrink, and others stating the same, is the most correct interpretation of the RAW as I think that fits in with the style of TOR. Oh, for an example of combat that actually highlighted and clarified these rarer circumstances within a game! I'm not sing...

Rich, you are spot on concerning engagements and stances.
Cheers James. I'm not 100% sure as can see both ways are viable but its they way I've worked it since playing so will stick that way as it doesn't appear to break anything; although it does mean PCs are 'locked' into their engagements.

Re: Passing to Rearward stance in the middle of a fight

For me, it really boils down to how fluid you think the Engagement status is and how much weight you put on the statement "A combatant remains engaged until he defeats all opposition". I read that as you continue with the current engagement until your opposition is defeated which, for me, means that...

Re: Passing to Rearward stance in the middle of a fight

My own interpretation allows for more freedom to the heroes, and considers that the tides and movements of the fight allow other companions to close around the archer, or form a sort of man-wall, or whatever, and those in melee are able to engage the archer's enemy, thus freeing him to change stanc...

Re: Passing to Rearward stance in the middle of a fight

I am not sure I understand? You allow moving between close combat stances *every round*, but not between them and Rearward stance, even if the number of combatants allows it, unless the hero is also not engaged at the time? That's right, because the rules also state this: A character is engaged whe...
