Re: Audiences without the Cultural Attitudes

A question for all who are reading this, as I'm not too familiar with the Audiences mechanic... How does the starting cultural attitude bonus/penalty compare with other bonuses and penalties that PCs may have when interacting with the NPCs. Is, for example, a negative attitude easily cancelled out b...

Re: Audiences without the Cultural Attitudes

Of course, then there are the orcs... You're correct and, for me, that's a very separate discussion to the cultural attitudes table and a very interesting discussion that can really explore the metaphysical elements of Tolkien's mythology and whether something is inherently evil, etc. It can get pr...

Re: Audiences without the Cultural Attitudes

I'm just not sure that kind of thing trickles down to the individual the way the cultural attitudes do. I'm Canadian and right now the USA terrifies me but I don't think that affects how I feel about individual people from the US. That's because you live in the modern world though, not Middle-earth...

Re: Audiences without the Cultural Attitudes

. However... this really isn't the same as a starting cultural attitude, which is a subjective view based upon cultures of Middle-earth being insular and suspicious of outsiders unless there is a good or bad reason for them not to be In other words, Cultural Attitudes are more akin to regional bias...

Re: Audiences without the Cultural Attitudes

Yes! [Just seen posts while I've been writing this] For me the cultural attitude table is no different than if we mapped out, say, the UK's attitude towards various other nations or groups of organisations. For instance, what attitude would the UK generally have to each of these: USA EU France Austr...

Re: Miniatures for TOR

Those spiders really are nicely done, just looking at them again and you've done a great job on making them interesting with the trees and webs, etc. Really nice job. I'm quite jealous!

Ooh, thanks Rich! The runic fonts will be very useful...

(And the hunt mat is cool too!)
No problem! If you could take a look at the Hunt Mat and spot any missing rules then that would be useful... I think it looks okay but haven't used it yet as my gaming group is on leave until the new year.

Thus, getting rid of Cultural Attitudes would be like getting rid of the Gibbet King: xenophobia one of the "monsters" the heroes have to help defeat.
This is an awesome idea and a brilliant goal for a campaign set in and around Mirkwood and Wilderland.

Re: Audiences without the Cultural Attitudes

An article on this very subject: https://www.publicmedievalist.com/race-fantasy-genre/ Not really. Cutural attitudes, which are starting points and can be changed based on PC interactions, that you raised in the OP are not the same as what that article is observing. However I do think the issues th...
