Re: Finally getting to play this!

Sounds like you've got a good handle on things. Weapons are indeed improved only by using Experience Points and not Advancement Points after character creation. You could invest in as many weapon skills as you like, but it's not practical to do so. For my players, who have been going at it for years...

Re: Tips for fighting Tyulquin (DoM spoilers)?

Thank you Francesco and bluejay for clearing things up! The thing I like about it is that when invoked, it will only ever do basic damage (since if you had rolled a Tengwar, you'd have gotten the Called Shot off instead). I must be missing something here. Your house rule only affects the RAW on a n...

Re: Tips for fighting Tyulquin (DoM spoilers)?

What I might do is keep that house rule that Rich mentioned above for Called Shots caused by Eyes, but use the normal Called Shot rules if the adversary chooses to make one. That way Eyes still make things more dangerous. This is a nice alternative indeed. Francesco The thing I like about it is tha...

Re: New to AiME- Please help me understand lvl 3 "Rider" ability!

The mount's action is not the rider's action. Each of them has their own action. It has to be that way, because a controlled mount cannot take the Attack action and if the mount's action and the rider's action had to match up then you could never attack.

Re: Rules handout for conventions?

I'm pretty sure the Palantir will reveal one or more handouts. However, I've pretty much moved away from handouts at conventions. There are two dangers with handouts, either they'll read them (in which case you have a silent table staring at papers) or they won't (which means they're of limited util...

Re: New to AiME- Please help me understand lvl 3 "Rider" ability!

That doesn't seem right; there is the option of having the mount not taking any action, per se. Personally, I would rule the same way. A character that did not give his controlled mount an instruction to take an Action would just have the mount's Speed as movement. However, it would always be to yo...

Re: New to AiME- Please help me understand lvl 3 "Rider" ability!

Which leaves me more confused- nothing to me indicates that the rider's action is to give the mount an action... The ability to pick a controlled mount's action is not the same as the rider taking an action to control the mount. However, if you had a special ability that was triggered by the charac...

Re: New to AiME- Please help me understand lvl 3 "Rider" ability!

I don't think that this example is possible, zed, as long as the character remains mounted. The mount may Dash, but the rider cannot Dash as a separate action unless he first dismounts. Having movement is not the same as moving. In that particular case, I would envision the 'Dash' to be the rider u...

Re: New to AiME- Please help me understand lvl 3 "Rider" ability!

Warning: long post is long. This is going to be a discussion of how mounted combat works in 5e. I know that's not going to answer every question, but hopefully it will be enough to point the way for folks to do their own interpretations and understandings of the game. And, of course, this is my per...

Re: Caltrops and the Battle of Celduin Crossing

I totally understand the desire to go all in for your players. When I ran the scenario, I drew out diagrams of the bridge and then did (in pastels) an illustration of their defensive structure (they took local boats and turned them into cover/ways to make sure they only had to face a few opponents a...
