Re: Player knowledge of adversaries

That could be done for Insight, Search or Awareness rolls that I think of. Yes, these are the tests I have usually used hidden rolls for in D&D (+ Stealth). For example, it adds an additional level of tension when the player doesn't know whether the innkeeper they are talking to is telling the trut...

Re: Tips for fighting Tyulquin (DoM spoilers)?

I played that scene not long ago, and the web of illusion was wery fun. Basically I just decided what the players thought they saw, but in reality Tuylqin was just sneaking in on them for an ambush. To make Tuylqin more dangerous and to use the Many Poisons, I decided that called shots were availabl...

Re: Player knowledge of adversaries

Would you just do a Lore check and for TN 14 the adventurer knows the name of the monster and one special ability; for TN 16 the endurance and another special ability; for TN 18 hate score and another special ability, etc? What if the adventurers have shadow-lore? Based on the description of this s...

Re: Reforge the Wolfbiter

My story for the Wolfbiter Axe is that the Hermit, presented in ToW is an heir of Balti. He left on a scouting mission from Woodmen-town shortly after the fall of Smaug, to Dol Guldur with a group of Woodmen. As they approached the naked hill, a shade of great evil, who had just emerged from hiding ...

Re: Reforge the Wolfbiter

Great feedback OS. Thanks! It'll be up to the players to decide where to go. Rivendel is the obvious choice, but perhaps Elrond will be reluctant to reforge such a dangerous weapon (considering the friend-slaying curse). Rivendell could add an automatic success to the craft test... And what about th...

Re: Reforge the Wolfbiter

Regarding the history of the Wolfbiter Axe, then I was thinking that it is a very old and powerful Famous weapon made by the dwarves to combat the Werewolf of Mirkwood when he was first hunting the free people in Greenwood the great. But the woodmen were not successful, because no matter how many ti...

Wolfbiter Type: Long-hafted Axe Craftmanship: Dwarven Banes: Wargs Qualities: 1. Foe-slaying - 2. Grievous - 3. Keen One could certainly make it more fearsome. Wolfbiter Type: Great Axe Craftmanship: Dwarven (Nogrod) Banes: Wargs Qualities: 1. Foe-slaying - 2. Cleaving - 3. Piercing I definitly agr...

Reforge the Wolfbiter

Hello guys, My players just finished collecting the 5 pieces of Wolfbiter Axe and now they will need to reforge it! It is an artifact with 3 properties that can be unlocked by the bearer like any other magical weapon. My plan is for the players to seek a smith cabable of performing the task of repai...

Re: Caltrops and the Battle of Celduin Crossing

I would use the mechanics already in play. Add bonus battle dice equal to the number of successes on a skill test for preparation of the battle of Celduin. Later ask the players to spend a fellowship phase to create a number of caltrops for the next adventure phase, adding perhaps one additional bat...

Re: Valour and Fear

Just to be clear, are you adding these extra abilities when one or more PCs fails their Valour roll? Or, you just pick some extra abilities that are Fear based for certain adversaries so such tests are more common? I've used, and like the idea of, adding abilities to opponents based on characters f...
