Re: Uses for Treasure

Aside from raising Standing (and temporarily raising your Standard of Living), what, if anything, do you do with Treasure? I think the main problem is "what consequences in the game have a higher Standing or Standard of Living?". If you and your players find a satisfying answer to that, then you do...

Re: Flipped tolerance in Encounters

When you set the tolerance, do you tell the players this number? If not, do you hint either initially or as they use up the tolerance or allow further insights to gauge tolerance? Personally I don't tell my players neither the Tolerance of an Encounter, nor the Endurance or Hate points of an Advers...

Re: Corruption Test in Blighted Area

While I also use the TN for the Region Type as a starting point, remember that a Blighted Place is very special (and different!) place in the middle of a region.

For example, Smaug's resting place could call for a much higher TN regarding Corruption tests than the normal 14 for Border Lands.

Re: are we waiting for other cultures

I'd like to see a way to modify the existing cultures slightly to handle different regions. You can use this guide, made a long time ago by someone who's name I can't recall: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzkNI57vAWHAYWR1ZTQ3VnM3T28 The main points are: 1) Attributes: distribute 14 points, with...

Re: are we waiting for other cultures

However, I do think we might see the Grey Havens as an Advanced Culture. While the Eriadorians might be iffy, I also believe that we are likely to get another Heroic Culture to round-out Gondor. I also think that these two are needed to round up the cultures of Western Middle-earth: Elves of the Gr...

Re: are we waiting for other cultures

I've always considered Dorwinrrim Mediterranean, more akin to spanish-italian cultures than to the Near East. The wine culture leads me to this idea. Also, the fact that they live on the shores of an inland sea seems similar to the Mediterranean coast. Any other conception about the Men of Dorwinion...

Re: Flipped tolerance in Encounters

As far as I understand it, from previous talks with James, the Introduction works as follows: The whole introduction is considered as "one roll". - If there's a spokesman, his roll is considered normally. - If the group opts for individual presentations, then add all successes, then substract each f...

Re: Gondor Campaign

You could consider that some elves linger or sometimes travel to the now abandoned port of Edhellond. They could sometimes even be met by the Prince of Dol Amroth, who has elven blood in him, or by his family. Also, Lórien could send one emissary to Ecthelion's court. Even if he/she doesn't appear i...

Re: Experience Sink

Is it supposed to be just one adventure per year? I've been running 2. Is this going to be a problem for Darkening of Mirkwood? No. I run 2 adventures per year (mostly) and it worked ok regarding experience and such. Try to stay on the lower side of XP given per adventure and that's all. So, when t...

Re: Flipped tolerance in Encounters

I've found the RAW for Tolerance to be almost trivial. Most companies can easily rack up 5 or more successes before exceeding Tolerance, thereby providing the expectation that they will always get what they want and then some. I just didn't like how this played out. Exactly the same experience here...
