Re: What Classes are the Fellowship and Thorin & Co.?

In a perfect world they would not be quite so incompetent, and he would have been able to make a perfect rewrite that fits The Hobbit better with The Lord of the Rings . One saving grace is that we have unreliable narrators for the stories, so some of their silliness could be attributed to their Hob...

That guy who just posted happens to be a friend of mine (I didn't even notice until after I'd replied!)

Re: Hound of Mirkwood Virtue

I've noted quite a few similar discrepancies among the various example characters, where some of the basic numbers don't seem to add up. For example, the Singer on p. 73 (of the LM Guide) has a Wisdom of 11 (+0). The Perception for said character isn't noted as one of their proficient Skills, so on...

Re: Non-Wilderland PC's in Wilderland?

Great stuff so far! I've found that going with the books' default: a celebration five years after The Battle of Five Armies, where the various Free People cultures send representatives, is a great way to bring a disparate party of the different Cultures together. Our group has two High Elves as well...

Re: Why does the Scholar suck so bad

I'll just add that my group is made up of mostly Scholars, and we haven't had any problems with them in combat. They have powerful weapons and armour, and are quite experienced (some having multi-classed as well), so that does factor into it. A good general rule of thumb is to treat those 'strangers...

Re: Herbalism Kit?

Thanks all for your comments. I've come to this: proficiency in herbalism kit is necessary to create a salve or potion from one of the healing herbs listed in AIME. Herb-Lore specialty removes the need of this, so someone with this specialty will be able to create these potions and salves, too (the...

I'm currently pacing myself and only reading a few posts a day... More epic that way. Though now I'm almost caught up.
I've been doing the same thing. I can better appreciate them that way.

Re: Beorning Thane Title

From a Doylist perspective, having some of the major characters from the stories (Beorn, Thranduil, Radagast, etc.) doing too much impedes what the PCs will feel responsible for taking on. So to keep things firmly in the PCs' hands, it's good not to have characters like Beorn doing too much.
