Re: Spoilers: LoreMaster Only!: of Leaves & stewed hobbit

I had only four players for this one, and it was the PC's fourth adventure.

Re: Spoilers: LoreMaster Only!: of Leaves & stewed hobbit

I've only run it in TOR, but my players also avoided the Wight and "succeeded" at the adventure (by having the Hobbit Treasure Hunter as the only one who went in for the rescue). I pretty much ran things by the book, though I probably erred in deference to the PC if anything was questionable, being ...

Re: Introducing Magic to AIME

I haven't actually purchased the books yet, but concerning the use of magic, the concept of magic attracting the Shadow would seem to be a good way to prevent too much abuse of magic. MERP had rules for this and they actually worked pretty well, at least for our group. Being long-running foes of th...

Re: I ran Eaves of Mirkwood last night.

Getting too 'stuck' on what we think the proper approach is (whether in a published adventure, or what we have created ourselves) is an easy mistake to make. And I think your advice is a good lesson for us all. Perhaps someone (whether new or a veteran GM) will read what you wrote and be reminded th...

Re: How many adventures/fellowship phases?

I very much agree with what Rich posted. While it's very much appropriate to have the players directing the activities of their characters, in a more general sense it is the LM's job to "herd cats" (if necessary) and keep the game session on track. Nothing at all wrong with a little steering or enco...

Re: Lamp of Belthi

The history of the Lamp is told in the Darkening of Mirkwood (for TOR): When Thranduil decided to abandon the naked hill to move his capital north, the lamps were escorted by a company of picked Elven warriors as one of the treasures of the Realm. On the way, they were ambushed by countless Spiders,...

Re: Best introductory adventure for experienced gamers new to TOR?

All three are excellent choices, IMV. Perhaps think about where your characters will be * afterwards * (after you complete the adventure)? In other words, where would you like to get them, to start things off afterwards. Sometimes thinking ahead of which side of Mirkwood you want them to be on can h...

I don't have the book with me, but I'm pretty sure some of the Outlaws in Tales from Wilderland had this ability as well.

Re: Learning a New Language or Tool Proficiency

This is a good idea, provided the GM keeps things balanced and doesn't just allow a player to gain tons of proficiencies as a way of circumventing the normal rules (I'm sure most GMs would be careful). I always liked how West End Games Star Wars d6 did things, where one PC could train another. Of co...
