Re: Creating a custom campaign, looking for input & possible pitfalls

Well, to start, it's your world and your game. You could posit a somewhat weaker, less well-funded (ha!) Laundry. Perhaps a power play in the late 1970s drafted most of the computational assets out of SOE into GCHQ, leaving the Laundry a remnant organization tasked mostly with keeping tabs on moldy,...

Re: Laundry Wiki

Some codewords refer to Sites and entities of various kinds. I find statting out "monsters" kind of bland, and that's also the sort of data I don't think the players need. I'm never going to have "everything" in the wiki, so the characters' Research skill still applies to expand on the bare-bones en...

Re: Laundry Wiki

I can simply refer to a Codename and the players look it up on their devices - saves exposition time at the table. Also, I can count on some of my players to binge-read this sort of thing, and then pose as Subject Matter Experts at the table, which moves the expository load from me onto them. (They ...

Laundry Wiki

I'm busy uploading and formatting a wiki to support my ongoing Laundry campaign, nicknamed "The Colville Group". So far, almost all of my effort's been concentrated in the Codename Archive - there's stuff from the books and the game, and then lots of my own add-ons. Let me know what you think. http:...

Re: Fun Facts (add at will)

Just because you're Sectioned under Part III of the OSA doesn't make you part of the Laundry and thus subject to the corpse-rider clause of your employment contract. In fact, the organization was for a long time a pretty small body, with a correspondingly meager budget (and thus a severe disinclinat...

Fun Facts (add at will)

Fun Fact #247: The Benthic Treaty of the Azores, concluded in 1954 between humanity and the subaquatic ancient race called BLUE HADES, hit an unexpected glitch just before the signing ceremony. The chief of the BLUE HADES delegation insisted that, rather than requiring the signatures of the diploma...

Re: Gorgonism reconsidered...

So, I spent a little time looking up "classical" Gorgonism and came across the description of a cockatrice - a lizard/chicken mutation with a killing gaze. So what happens when you get a naturally-occurring gorgonism outbreak in a factory poultry operation? To the uninitiated, it looks like arson wi...

Re: The Five Eyes

Core Rulebook, pp. 121-122 (with additions of my own) Canadian Secret Unconventional Intelligence Service - Ostensibly "friendly cousins" of the Laundry's, but we don't trust them much because they share an enormously long, minimally-defended border with the Land of the Black Chamber. The Canadians ...

Re: Gorgonism reconsidered...

IIRC, the gorgon effect is an 'observer mediated' whim-wham, which (in its technological incarnation) requires two points of view - for SCORPION STARE weapons, you have to be caught by two cameras to initiate the effect. Remember, in The Jennifer Morgue , Bob had to jack a external camera into his P...

Gorgonism reconsidered...

If you restrained a human (or animal) gorgon long enough to perform enucleation (removal) of one of their eyeballs, would you have effectively defused them?

Just curious, since this situation might arise in an upcoming mission...knowing how sneaky my players are!
