MUCH SNIPPAGE
No, in my opinion (and my game), I don't want culture to be a factor in that initial mechanic.
And that is your option.

Much Luck with your campaign!

Re: Audiences without the Cultural Attitudes

The other point about this (and its mentioned a lot in both the Player's Guide and LM Guide), is that players need to understand that as adventurers they are not perceived well by most (p.192 of Player's Guide - "their arrival is often met with fear and suspicion"). This table partly represents som...

Re: gaining shadow points and player's actions

steerpike65, I know how you feel! I had a player who really loves playing a mage, and it took a while for him to get that ME simply doesn't have big flashy magic spells like D&D does. Another player did not like ME or Tolkien, and I simply had to tell him "this is not the game for you". Middle Earth...

Re: gaining shadow points and player's actions

SNIPPAGE One of the players is a grumpy dwarf with a personal vendetta against a certain Orc. He wants to be as neutral as he can, sometimes borderline evil, and gain as much gold as he can. I mentioned to him that although dwarves really like their gold, other people/races are less inclined to app...

Re: Audiences without the Cultural Attitudes

A question for all who are reading this, as I'm not too familiar with the Audiences mechanic... How does the starting cultural attitude bonus/penalty compare with other bonuses and penalties that PCs may have when interacting with the NPCs. Is, for example, a negative attitude easily cancelled out ...

Re: Audiences without the Cultural Attitudes

RichH has detailed (quite well) the difference between racist and cultural views. Let us use the example of Dwarves and Beornings. Beorn isn't that fond of dwarves, because they are materialistic and greedy and don't really care that much about the land. Beornings (being the Northmen who live in the...

Re: great spear and horses

Personally I wouldn't allow it; armored knights charging with massive spears feels Arthurian, not Middle-Earthian. Glorelendil, I would respectfully disagree. Tolkien based both Eomer's charge at Helm's Deep and the charge of the Rohirrim at Pelinor Fields on the lance charge of the Winged Hussars ...

Re: Non Beorning Beornings

This clears things up for me... thanks all. Was really not trying to look for loopholes in character creation or anything. Never thought you were looking to "nerf" the system. I think the player's best bet is to try and *become* a Beorning in game. Open Beorn's house as a Sanctuary. Gain Beorn as a...

Re: Audiences without the Cultural Attitudes

MASSIVE AMOUNT OF SNIPPAGE However, all that said, I will step away from this sub forum and not post here again. Please don't stop posting here. I know that myself and many others have benefited from your comments and advice, and I would hate to see that go simply because of one thread that ...

Re: Audiences without the Cultural Attitudes

Welcome to the game padraigmac! What you might do is look at this as a challenge for the PCs to overcome. They are coming from an unknown culture, one which most everyone has never seen before. In Wilderland Adventures , the hobbits who are opening the Easterly Inn have letters of introduction from ...
