Re: Help with hazards in or around Mirkwood?

I recently ran a scenario set on the Old Forest Road, and for that leg of the journey I used a selection of Hazards from the Journeys & Maps book: Spider Webs, Track of the Werewolf (which may have been originally called Track of Wolves or some such, but one of our PCs has a background related to th...

Re: "The Shadow over Wilderland" campaign AP -- SPOILERS

Here is the much-belated write-up of session 4 of our campaign. We actually played this a couple of months ago, but I let myself fall behind on writing up the sessions. I'll follow with the next few in short order. ---------- Session 4: To Journey's End (part 3) (May 3, T.A. 2946) The characters: Ca...

Re: "The Shadow over Wilderland" campaign AP -- SPOILERS

After a lengthy hiatus due to some scheduling difficulties, we finally got back to the game last Friday. As always, this is rife with spoilers for those who are sensitive to such things, and quite lengthy as well. The scenario we're playing through is "To Journey's End & the Eagles' Eyrie", as adapt...

Re: Handling Other NPC's in Combat

I realize this is (mostly) an old, old conversation, but HunterGreen 's post brought it to my attention. This actually came up for me in last Friday's session, in which the PCs were fighting Marsh-dwellers with a number of NPC allies. I used the general idea of the "Allies in Battle" table from "Of ...

Re: Brand New to this Place With Questions!

Without having read the books, and only watching the movies, why would it be hard for me to run a campaign setting with TOR and still keep the flavor of the movies intact (since thats what me and my players know LotRs from) because they have so much material in TOW over AiMe. I just don't understan...

Re: Brand New to this Place With Questions!

Re: your questions about classes -- are there wizards and clerics and the like? The One Ring introduced the idea of Callings, which sort of (and only sort of ) replicate classes for that game. Each Calling is a general motivation for why your character is an adventurer -- the Wanderer, for example, ...

Re: Brand New to this Place With Questions!

You are correct that Cubicle7 is currently publishing for two Tolkien-based games. The One Ring uses a unique system that emphasizes many of the literary themes and elements of Tolkien's books, whereas Adventures in Middle-Earth is an OGL (D&D 5th Ed) game, adapting many of the mechanics that C7 dev...

Re: "The Shadow over Wilderland" campaign AP -- SPOILERS

Here's the second session of our campaign. Again, this is the write-up I emailed to the players so it recaps everything in detail, and may be too long for some readers' tastes. Naturally, it also includes spoilers, this time for Rich Harrison's "To Journey's End & the Eagles' Eyrie". Session 2: To J...

Re: Another "New Journey Rules", inspired by AiMe

Falenthal, I've been casting about for an alternate Journey system for my own game, so I was eager to read your thoughts. I was seriously considering implementing Rich H.'s system, but I'm not willing to buy a copy of AiME just for their journey rules (which would be necessary to make Rich's rules w...
