Re: Adventures in Middle-Earth with D&D retroclones?

AiMe is not a complete game system by itself and requires the D&D SRD for 5th Ed to be fully playable. The parts that are completely necessary to play are character creation and task resolution (including Combat). However, the modules that Cubicle 7 have created for AiMe could be converted to anothe...

Re: Mirkwood Campaign- Scholar usefulness?

There is a ton of lore to uncover. Also knowing the enemies of the campaign, having a class that is proficient in the Wisdom saving throw or have a high enough Wisdom score to help with Corruption may mean that the Scholar will be the only character that can fight normally in a given encounter.

AiMe Characters and the Balrog

Wanted to get some thoughts. In the novels were are lead to believe that the Balrog is beyond the Fellowship. Seeing as how the action economy in 5E really doesn't favor a solo monster, I will be very curious to see how the developers handle this problem. The high-level characters of the Fellowship ...

Re: We need to talk about the Slayer

While I think the D&D CR system is a bit wonky in general, after reading the original post, In my opinion, the LM didn't run the monster to the best of its abilities. One of the major problem with "Solo" monsters in D&D is the action economy. A single monster never has enough actions to compete with...

Re: On Slayers and Warriors

One thing we need to keep in mind with these types of discussions is are we comparing the Class to an Adventures in Middle-earth fight or a D&D fight. In playing through almost all of Wilderland Adventures, I have noticed the fights are different than D&D since there is no area of effect magic. Has ...

Re: Advice for a magic item/wondrous artifact

I would go with the Blessing of Intimidation, and the Curse of Shadow Taint of 3 Shadow Points. Wearing the Cloak marks the player as a Bad Ass, but it is still a creature of Shadow. Wearing its hide makes you more susceptible to the Shadow. Maybe as the LM, you can create an Undertaking to remove t...

Re: gaining shadow points and player's actions

@Zed What one has to remember is that the Hobbit and LOTR are still somewhat based on Tolkien's World War 1 experiences. One of the major themes is, do not give up hope even in the darkest hour. If a player is not ready to experience this, then AiMe is not a game for that player. Almost all the C7 w...

Re: gaining shadow points and player's actions

I think in general Shadow Points do not affect your character until they are greater than your wisdom score. So mechanically nothing happens when you gain Shadow Points. I leave it in the hands of my players if they want to show they have gained them. If a character wants to be "bad", let them but a...

Re: Do any Loremaster allow spending inspiration after a failed roll?

I have been playing/DMing 5e since the Playtest. The way my group has played, is that inspiration can be spent up until the point of damage dice being rolled (sometimes my PCs try to crit fish). So yes the way my group plays that inspiration can be rolled even if the first roll is a miss.
