Tolkien's experiences in the trenches of WWI greatly influenced him.
I hope the upcoming biopic does them justice.

Re: Most Studly Characters in AiME?

Slayers can gain both high AC and and half damage to the most common types of damage very easily, while still doing very good damage. Foehammers can increase that AC even higher. A Barding with the Swordmaster Virtue even higher. A Barding Slayer with the Swordmaster feat and 14 dex in Scale, with a...

Re: The three rings

So were the Elves right or wrong? I don't remember if anything was ever mentioned, and a quick glance at the Tolkien Gateway doesn't seem to say. I think they were right. I think even the Three were too intrinsically linked to the One. Partially based on Galadriel and Elrond leaving after the defea...

Re: The three rings

This short video is the best explanation of the rings that I have seen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKU0qDpu3AM Enjoy! Edit: I thought I'd add a little more. I think without the Three Rings Rivendell, Lothlorien, and the Grey Havens could not have been preserved as long as they were. And without...

Re: Two Eaves Queries

For 1) I'm not sure it matters if Rowanhold is on the map as it's not the destination of the Journey, the party ends up their by accident on the way to their destination.

2) that is an evocative image, but I can't remember seeing it.

Re: Wanderer abilities and embarkation

Journeys are a Wanderer's place to shine. In combat they just don't have as much to bring to the table as a Slayer or Warrior, They still have good stuff mind you, just not as much.

I would be wary of reducing their effectiveness in what is their special chance to the most effective.

Re: Hobbit dead/Elf Dead

Again, thanks to all for detailed replies. One follow-up if I may? Did the orcs cannibalize their dead, or just simply leave them to rot? Would a great chieftain or warrior if their I'll be honored with a tomb? I know Orc kind ate Men and I assume they wouldn't turn down their own if they couldn't ...

Interesting feedback from a homebrew AiME campaign: https://plus.google.com/110302093528696183857/posts/HLie7u2YhNB Interesting, using 5e statblocks like Lich and Adult White Dragon. I agree with OS. I would never stat out Melkor. You could plausibly saw this was a much weaker Melkor returned from ...
