BTW, the scimitars borne by the (spoiler alert) on page 78 caught me by surprise. I'm used to seeing the Orcish heavy blades of course, but am pleasantly surprised about that little tidbit. :) Of course, you can't have *SPOILER* without...CURVED. To butt in a bit - drawing a sword from the right hip is quite easy and probably wasn't uncommon in the migration period and early middle ages. Peter Jackson obviously "got the idea" from John Howe and/or Alan Lee, and they've been painting the balrog wrong since time immemorial. Yes. I'd just add that DnD 3.5 was released in 2003 while FotR in 2001. Any visual inspiration went the other way around.
