Re: Barding Swordmaster after play

I modified it to duplicate 5ed Defensive Duelist feat. I removed Dexterity and finesse weapon prerequisites, but added proficiency in weapon as prerequisite. So in my campaign it looks like that: Swordmaster: When fighting with either longsword or a broadsword with which you are proficient, and ano...

Re: What does the "common folk" know?

Very true, and even among the descendants of the Noldor, only a handful would have seen events transpire first hand. I can almost imagine a young elf rolling his eyes when grandpa starts talking about the first age. "Yes, yes, the world was lit up by lamps. Big ass lamps. Then trees. Got it."...

Re: Most Studly Characters in AiME?

Based on what others have said, I'd suggest limiting the Swordmaster virtue to full Proficiency bonus as a REACTION. That way, it is still worth while, but only good against 1 attack per round. Great for duels, not so great for hordes. Also, I'd limit the Foehammer's Hooped & Hasped to medium armor ...

Re: The three rings

Hello all! Been reading a lot of lotr recently and was stumped at this...why did the elves bother to use their three rings at all? Because the Elves wanted their cake and eat it to. They wanted the beauty of the Undying Lands, without being beholden to the Valar. Remember, the Noldo left the Undyin...

Re: Novels/Movies in Phases

Okay I can buy into all of those journey length break downs. Would you describe any of it as Fellowship Phases? I think the LoTR time spend in Rivendell might be - but what about Lorien? Edoras? Minas Tirith before the battle? I'd say every break between steps were a Fellowship phase: TB's house, B...

Re: Staunching Song of the Woodmen

I read it as meaning 'after finishing your short rest, but before the adventuring phase continues'.

Meaning:
-it is dependent on taking a short rest
-the song is sung immediately after the short rest (or as the last act of the short rest).
-just like hit dice may be spent after taking a short rest.

Re: Hobbit dead/Elf Dead

Tolkien wrote that Dwarves entomb their dead (and I think he said they 'return to stone'), and Elves bodies quickly deteriorated. I don't think that Tolkien was being literal when he suggested that dead Dwarves 'return to stone'. At least not in the way that most Trolls are turned to stone by sunli...

Re: What does the "common folk" know?

The Grey Company was about 30 Rangers. And that was all they could gather in a short time. Perhaps a couple hundred total? Maybe more than that, but not many more. However, that's not including the total population of their secret enclaves including women, children and old folks. There might have b...
