Re: About Rewards and Patrons
Let's play rules-lawyer for a minute. The "Reward" type of patronage may be so named precisely because "Reward" is a specialized term in The One Ring, meaning a piece of equipment or an enhancement to a piece of equipment. The Reward type of patronage can be activated by rising in Valour, just as wi...

Re: Have we been doing it wrong?
Some groups spend hope like crazy and struggle not to go mad. Others never drop below maximum. It all depends on how cautious they want to be and how difficult their challenges are. It's not a foregone conclusion that heroes should collect shadow points or flaws or experience bouts of madness. You d...

Re: Enemy Targeting
If he is going by the book, and if there are more enemies than heroes, the Loremaster assigns one enemy of his choice to each hero in a close combat stance, then assigns the leftover enemies to either engage with an already-engaged hero or stand back, possibly to attack with missiles. This means tha...

Re: Have we been doing it wrong?
So Fellowship points, so far we used them to replace any used personal hope points, ie. a companion is about to use a hope point, but ticks off one fellowship point instead. I re-read the rules again (slipcase edition), and it seems this is actually incorrect usage? What it seems to say is that you...

Hence my use of the word "normally." There are exceptions, but nothing that applies to the original question.

Re: Year's End Clarification
Note that getting two undertakings at year's end or in longer fellowship phases is an optional rule. In the first edition of the game, people complained that they thought longer fellowship phases ought to allow more undertakings, so the option was added to the second edition. Personally, I think thi...

Re: Advice for a new TOR Campaign
Traits do not normally provide bonuses, if that's what you mean by "benefits." Traits have three main uses: invoking an automatic action, invoking an unforeseen action, and earning an advancement point. You can usually only choose one of these invocations for any given action. See pp. 93–4 of the co...

Re: What happens when elves die?
The spirits of elves go to the Halls of Mandos, there to experience purgatory until, finally, they are released in new bodies. What happens naturally to their slain bodies is, I think, never described. Dead elves in the Silmarillion do seem to get buried: Finduilas and Glorfindel and the hill of the...

Re: Fatigue rules: too harsh... and one piece of trivia
Exactly. In a middle earth game, I'm personally not interested in combat realism. I'm interested in combat that feels like the scenes from the source material. When I brought up realism, I wasn't bringing up historical accuracy. I just said that getting tired after a single heavy-armor-penetrating ...

Re: Fatigue rules: too harsh... and one piece of trivia
Realistically, in a battle in which you're heavily armored, getting "hit" by a blow you fail to block or parry, and which gets through your armor, but which doesn't cause lasting injury, is likely to reduce your performance. I see no issue here.
