great spear and horses

The Great Spear requires two hands to wield it. But what if its carried by a rider? Should it be treated like a lance, such that it can be used one handed (couched under the armpit) when riding - ie use the D&D 5e rules for lances - or should it continue to be a two-handed weapon, much like the Part...

Hill-men Warrior and Spirit-wargs

When a Beorning with the Night-goer virtue suffers damage in his bear form, the damage is transferred to the Beorning upon waking from his dream-like state. Does it therefore make sense that a hill-man warrior would suffer the damage taken by his spirit-warg form when the hill-man wakes?

Re: New Region Guide Coming

Damn you're much cleverer than me. I'll note that down for next time. (Bwahahaa this is perfect misdirection - people who are aching to broadcast their opinions always assume they are the smartest guy in the room, so will be too busy with the assurance that their internal narrative is correct to no...

Re: New Region Guide Coming

I rather thought the new hefty region guide was going to be Moria and Lorien because of the two hefty hints Jon dropped in the subsequent posts about Balrog's wings and Elves pointy ears - but as usual, everyone just decided this was an excuse to post their personal views on these two contentious s...

Re: Cover to The Laughter of Dragons

Yes Kurt - I woke up to that sad news - such a talent, he will be missed, but his art will live on

Is Ormal Noldor, Sindar or Silvan/Nandor?

To some extent its a rather irrelevant question, but what do people think? It seems unlikely Ormal would be a silvan/nandor elf given his focus on crafting - the description of him states "no wood elves are as devoted to the art of crafting as he is". Now this could be interpreted as indicating he i...

Re: Cover to The Laughter of Dragons

but is it the shadow of a new dragon come from the north or is it the figurative "shadow of smaug" or even some ghost or shade of smaug? For what it's worth, I love Jon's art, but I'm also a fan of Sam's (in fact I can't really fault the artwork throughout the TOR books) and its common sense to have...

New Background: Changeling - Mirkwood Campaign pg 101

Thought I'd share some ideas on this background (which I really like). I have run a TOR campaign for a long time and I'm also now running an AiME campaign. But I was recently invited to join a group as a player (something I haven't done for years) and decided to play a Barding with the new Changelin...

Re: Legendary ME Weapons

On the undertaking "go to the market pool" and the first option of having precious stones set in the weapon's hilt, my AiME group made a change (house rule) as none of the players or I felt that setting stones in the hilt would improve a weapon's ability to hit or damage - plus it wasn't clear if th...

Re: "A hundred"

It may very well be a "rough measure" used to imply "lots/many". But another thought occurs to me. Professor Tolkien was an expert on Anglo-Saxon history and literature and the term "hundred" was used in a number of contexts in the Anglo-Saxon world. For example, counties in Anglo-Saxon England were...
