Re: need ideas for an Isildur-oriented game, please!

Well, there is a lot of things in TOR that could be adapted for the earlier period. Dale doesn't exist but you could use it as a model for Tharbad or some other community. There are Dwarves in the Blue Mountains (mostly south of the Gulf of Lune). Durin's Folk (and the descendants of refugees from B...

Re: AiMe Characters and the Balrog

Lately, been neck-deep into researching Moria, I can't stop thinking about the MERP moria map, which has a suite of rooms for the Balrog at the base level of Moria. I never noticed that detail in the MERP material. I keep wondering what it does over the long years hanging out down there. One word: ...

Re: A Little Help for a First Time GM (At least for a LONG Time)

I have to echo Gilrohir Arncelevon above: For the D&D 5e mechanics you can probably get by with just downloading the SRD-OLG document (it's free) from WOTC; free dowloads are also available for both Player Basic Rules (V03) and DM Basic Rules (V05). Ultimately you might still want the Player's Handb...

Yes, thanks! For some reason I keep thinking it was later. Fixed.

Re: A TOR Guide to Western Eriador, the Blue Mountains, and Lindon

This is great and welcome work which I'm only just seeing for the first time! Even better as it helps to support the Ranger character's background which I've just started playing (I have them coming from near the Hills of Evendim. Many Thanks for taking the time and sharing the creative work you ou...

Re: Your personal wishlist for TOR books

Moria was at the top of my list but that will be fulfilled soon. I'd also love to see something like the thirty year campaign of Darkening of Mirkwood applied to another region of Middle Earth. Though it is an odd choice, I'd love to see something on the Forodwaith but there is probably too little ...

Re: AiMe Characters and the Balrog

The Balrog of Moria is likely to have some spell-like abilities that were not seen in The Lord of the Rings that would help keep a group from closing with it, similar to how it was portrayed in The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age and other games. Plus, just getting close enough to use melee weapons...

Re: need ideas for an Isildur-oriented game, please!

First off, there is a lot of stuff you would need to home-brew for AiMe: Most of the Heroic Cultures in RAW either don't exist yet at the beginning of the Third Age (Bardings, Beornings, Dwarves of the Lonely Mountain, Men of the Lake, Hobbits of the Shire, the Riders of Rohan) or they are very diff...

Re: The Twice-baked Honey Cake conundrum

I mentioned the Market Pool because there we have a mechanic to buy travel supplies that will grant a +1 bonus to Travel. If used in Beorns land, it could be called something else, but the benefit should remain the same for a permanent bonus of +1 until another rank in Travel is gained. If the bonu...

Re: The Twice-baked Honey Cake conundrum

Not quite sure if I follow you on the market pool part. I am quite new to TOR, to RPGs in general for that matter, and I have not read anything mentioning a marketing pool or what so ever. Is this something from a supplement or might this be a AiME thing? It is from rules from the Lake Town supplem...
