Re: The three rings

There was no certainty that the good done with the Three Rings would be undone by the destruction of the Master Ring. The Elves thought that it might be so, but they were also hopeful that they were wrong.

Re: Novels/Movies in Phases

Stops at Bree and Beorn's house might be too brief to be effective as Fellowship phases (save when Bilbo and Gandalf stay with Beorn over the winter). Rivendell: Yes. Lórien: Yes. Lake-town: Yes. The Company of Thorin in Thranduil's cells: No. The company while Erebor was besieged: There was enough ...

Re: Novels/Movies in Phases

I've taken part in such discussions involving the TOR journey rules; they are similar enough to apply here. The Hobbit breaks down fairly easily: Stage 1: Bag End to Rivendell. The Dwarves might have intended to cross the Misty Mountains and resupply from the Woodmen. Gandalf doubtless planned on st...

Re: First Copy of The Road Goes Ever On

Are the 4 large folding maps in the "Journeys and Maps" identical to those in "The Road Goes Ever On" offering? I assume so, but want to be sure. Technically eight maps printed on both sides of four sheets. I believe so, though I have not seen them myself. There could be some minor corrections or a...

Re: Anyone play in a different time or alternate ME?

Yes, MERP's Beornings could be played as Beorn's original people (referred to in-game as Beijabar or Bajaegahar), though I don't think Tolkien ever suggested that they ever dwelt in the Vales of Anduin.

Re: Anyone play in a different time or alternate ME?

You could also run a straight-edge Third Age Middle-earth -- but in the far east. The Company could be heroes from different Eastern cultures trying to resist Sauron's stranglehold on their homeland - maybe having the Blue Wizards as patrons and/or adversaries. There is room for Avari elves (that i...

Re: Anyone play in a different time or alternate ME?

In MERP I played in many different times, MERP gave you many options in each book for playing in multiple times. I would have to go back and look, but I don't remember how MERP handled the inclusion of cultures and sub-races that would not have existed yet as named people at the time of their defau...

Re: Anyone play in a different time or alternate ME?

I have not done this (not counting the time, years ago, when I tried to start a game of MERP only to have a TPK just running a sample combat--they thought it was too easy so I threw in one pair of Wargs). What I have done is worked out a possible timeline for Peter Jackson's version of Middle-earth:...

Re: Hobbit dead/Elf Dead

Again, thanks to all for detailed replies. One follow-up if I may? Did the orcs cannibalize their dead, or just simply leave them to rot? Would a great chieftain or warrior if their I'll be honored with a tomb? "Looks like meat's back on the menu boys!" Let's not confuse the movies with the books. ...
