Re: Making Combat more Tactical

I somewhat agree with kdresser about the feel of combat. Although I love TOR, in straight-up combat I have more fun with D&D 5e. Sure, we've got things like Called Shot but I don't find that to be a terribly interesting choice: the math is pretty straightforward on whether or not it's situationally...

Re: Making Combat more Tactical

I looked into ROS as well before I found GURPS. I'm interested to see what you came up with. Would you mind sharing? Caveat: these are house-rules, inelegantly bolted upon the original system. I'm writing them here just because you asked for it. Second caveat: I'm not trying to sell this system to ...

Re: Making Combat more Tactical

I can get some of your points, Kdresser. My TOR campaign uses a heavily modified combat, indeed. A lot of it is taken from the system of The Riddle of Steel and its modern scions ( Blades of the Iron Throne and others). It's a fairly complex set of house rules, though, and I wouldn't suggest it to a...

Re: Redemption?

(...) So, has anyone had thoughts about how this could be facilitated in mechanical terms? Cheers Tolwen Hi Tolwen, I think this is a most interesting idea. And most thematic. I have no good mechanical suggestions at the moment, but your post brought to me one of most compelling scenes in The Darke...

Re: Reduced Hope for experienced Heroes

After a two month hiatus I'm back at my game, and to the question. I'll thank Mica for his points, but while I understand that the system as written isn't a problem for him, I found some problem in my campaign, hence this thread. The Heroes -all Men- are 25 years older. They have fought in another w...

Re: The One Ring / Vortex

I think that applying Vortex initiative to TOR would be easy. Probably it would modify the player's behavior (like it is designed to do): I would see it more for a game modeled on The Hobbit (where cleverness win the day more often than not), rather than in one modeled after The Lord of The Rings (u...

Re: Magic Items as Rewards

Going from memory there is the Coup of Friendship (or a similar name) in the last years of the Darkening of Mirkwood (you have to defeat one of big bad boss of the campaign to get it)

Re: Making It Personal (LM Help)

A minor suggestion: keep ready a piece of paper with a long list names. As you play, glance at that list and give a name to all NPCs they interact with. Because there isn't a "generic dalish weaponsmith": there is Gunnar . "Do I know him?" asks the player. And you invent something like "You know him...
