Yes, Middle-earth dice are 12-sided, and have an Eye for '1' and a G-rune for 12......
:D

Sorry, I've been thoroughly enjoying this thread, and couldn't help myself. I'll go back in the corner and be quiet.....
Go and think about what you've done :)

Re: Realism in Middle-earth

And, just to clarify, it's not that dice (and dice games) that are exactly like ours would "spoil my immersion", but they wouldn't contribute to it, either, in the way that something similar-but-different would. Like round doors with doorknobs in the middle do. It would be a lost opportunity to mak...

Re: Introductions and Tolerance

I suppose maybe with the exception of eyes adding to Eye of Sauron counts. Maybe? Does anybody do this?

Re: Introductions and Tolerance

Except by this logic it is also possible to reason that failed Insight rolls (for bonus success dice) also reduce Tolerance, which definitely seems inappropriate to me. Seems like you got your answer--but just to circle back to this point: in case you might still be wondering about this, I wouldn't...

Re: Realism in Middle-earth

Here's an example of something I've been pondering as a result of this thread: in creating his world, it would be easy for JRRT to say, "Well, humans have always figured out ways to send messages, so I guess there will be a mail system and a pony express." Instead, he invented (or, probably, adapte...

Re: Realism in Middle-earth

Forgive me. 'Belongs in' really should have read something more like 'comes from'.

(For the love of Tolkien don't anybody correct me and tell me it's from Coleridge, Kurt will have kittens.)

Re: Realism in Middle-earth

You typed “Or maybe you just object to people using the term inaccurately or in ways to make themselves sound smart.” about the term immersion ... really, does that not sound the least bit patronising to you? And then someone actually had the nerve to tell me when and how I should consider myself i...

I'm not claiming anything, except that there is a whole lot of drivel in this thread that is borderline narcissism.
Really unnecessary. Contribute something positive, or expect to get moderated. This doesn't fly here.

Re: Realism in Middle-earth

Friend, I've been waiting about 18-months for somebody to comment on my avatar . . . Have to say, I kind of didn't get the joke--the only AngryDM post I've read (which you linked to, on traps) was pretty interesting and well written--so could be either of them. Haven't really seen any angrine...

Re: Realism in Middle-earth

For answer Gandalf cried aloud to his horse. ‘On, Shadowfax! We must hasten. Time is short. See! The beacons of Gondor are alight, calling for aid. War is kindled. See, there is the fire on Amon Dîn, and flame on Eilenach; and there they go speeding west: Nardol, Erelas, Min-Rimmon, Calenhad, and t...
