Re: So! What's going on with TOR?

All of these observations are really a reminder about how rare travelling is in Middle-earth. Adventurers are special people indeed.

Re: Another "New Journey Rules", inspired by AiMe

The following steps can be followed in order to reduce the number of Fatigue tests made during a journey, which will accommodate an even greater narrative style of play. With only one roll for each leg of a journey, the Loremaster can more quickly summarise events. This method also makes it more lik...

Re: Another "New Journey Rules", inspired by AiMe

That is why it is better to break journeys into several legs. A natural way to break a journey into legs is to group each leg by region type or terrain. So, one leg might be 50 miles through Wild Lands and the next 120 miles will be over easy ground or by river. Each leg would require a travel test....

Re: Another "New Journey Rules", inspired by AiMe

If the goal is to bring the number of Travel tests down to one roll for any length of journey, I would suggest using a static amount of Fatigue gain based on the distance travelled and have the quality of the Travel roll reduce the expected amount gained. You can use the formula already in place for...

Re: Valour and Fear

SOURCES OF FEAR So, I was thinking more about Fear tests and a section about "Sources of Fear." For Corruption, we have four main sources: Anguish, Blighted Places, Misdeeds, and Tainted Treasure. But for Fear, we could have: Dreadful Foes, Anguish, Blighted Places, and Peril. What do you think? Ye...

Re: Online Role Play tools for The One Ring

If anyone wants to test out The One Ring Online Character Server that I mentioned earlier, even for a solo adventure, I would be glad to stay up late some nights and be your Loremaster. It's really fun. You can do quite a bit in an hour. Just know that I am in the Mountain Time Zone in Arizona (USA)...

Re: Valour and Fear

I think it would be helpful to develop some text and possibly a chart for "Sources of Fear" and "Consequences of Fear" in the game, much like the sections from pages 222-229 in the core rules for Corruption. Because Corruption is a bit more explained and there are specific mechanics involved, it obv...

What's the best new Combat task?

Sudden Attack has quickly become the new favourite Combat task in my roleplaying group, especially for those playing stealthy Elves. I believe it is the first time multiple bonus Success dice can be used for the same test in the game. It's quite a powerful option and I like how it simulates a sneak...

Re: Valour and Fear

Since a failed Corruption test leads to Shadow Gain, I've wondered if it was ever considered to allow a failed Fear test to result in Hope loss, much like the consequence of Despair during a journey. This would be in addition to the rule already in place. So, if a hero fails a Fear test, he may not ...

Re: Online Role Play tools for The One Ring

Obadiah, if you really enjoy pen and paper and actual dice, I would suggest using Google Hangouts or something similar to connect with everyone at once by video. Then, play the game as if you're all sitting at the same table. If video is not important to you, or you have a group that is better at wr...
